Granby man killed, two injured in crash near Diamond

A Granby man was killed and two Carthage residents injured in an accident 6:17 p.m. Thursday at Highway 59 and Elder Road just south of Diamond.

According to the Highway Patrol, William D. Littlechild, 66, Carthage, driving a 2006 Cadillac CTS, was suffering from a medical condition when he crossed the center line and struck a 1995 Chevrolet Corsica driven by Ronald McDermott, 81, Granby, nearly head on.

McDermott was killed. Littlechild suffered serious injuries and a passenger in his car, Helen Littlechild, 70, Carthage, suffered moderate injuries. Both were taken to Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.

The fatality was the third of the month of June and the 42nd of 2014 for Troop D.
