Applications sought for membership on Joplin city boards

(From the City of Joplin)

The City of Joplin offers numerous opportunities for citizens to serve on its Boards, Commissions and Committees. These groups serve in various roles, including assessing needs; review of plans and policies; making recommendations to City departments and providing guidance on projects and programs.

Citizens of Joplin are eligible to submit applications for these groups throughout the year. Citizens must be a qualified voter in the City or the state of Missouri. Some boards may have specific requirements for its members. Applications are kept on file for two years. The City Council makes appointments to these organizations annually on an as needed basis.

The City has over 25 organizations in which citizens may serve. Each Board represents a specific area of City government, and citizens may designate which board(s) they are applying to offer their service.

Currently, the City Council is seeking applicants to fill the following board openings: a physician on the Board of Health; a representative from the news media for the Convention and Visitors Bureau; a representative from the industry field on the Solid Waste Advisory Commission; and a citizen at large for the Police and Fire Pension, Housing Authority, and Personnel Board.
