Carthage man killed, three others including 1 and 4-year-olds injured

A Carthage man was killed and three other people injured in a two-vehicle crash 4:55 p.m. Friday on Apple Road west of County Road 100.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 1998 Ford F-250, driven by Matthew C. Fox, 26, Carthage, and a 2002 Ford F250 driven by Judith A. Haines, 58, Carthage, were both across the center line and collided head on.

Fox was pronounced dead at 6:20 p.m. by Jasper County Coroner Rob Chappel.

Haines was treated for moderate injuries at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, as was a passenger, Nolan Haines, 4, Webb City. Another passenger, Nora M. Haines, 1, Webb City, was treated for minor injuries at Mercy.

The fatality was the 56th this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
