National Night Out set for August 4 at Cunningham Park

(From the Joplin Police Department)

On Tuesday, August 4, neighborhoods throughout Joplin are invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the 31st Annual National Night Out (NNO) crime prevention event.

Joplin’s NNO 2015 event will start at 5:30 p.m. in Cunningham Park. Offering events for all ages, the fun-filled family night includes a free swim period at the Cunningham Aquatic Center from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Free food and drinks will be served during the event.

Guests will have an opportunity to dunk a Joplin Police Officer in a dunk tank, and several emergency vehicles from the Police and Fire Departments and Emergency Medical Services will be on display. The Joplin Police Department (JPD) will also have a patrol car open to accept donations of baby items (wipes, diapers, baby soap, etc.) for Children's Haven.

Last year more than 500 Joplin area residents came out and enjoyed the National Night Out and another large turnout is expected this year. Sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and locally co-sponsored by the JPD, NNO is designed to: heighten crime prevention awareness; generate support and participation in local anti crime efforts; and strengthen community spirit and police-community partnerships.
