Kansas man drowns in Elk River

A Kansas man drowned at the Elk River Dam at Noel 6:40 p.m. Friday.

According to the Highway Patrol report, William M. Chance, 24, Belle Plaine, Kansas, walked out onto the Elk River Dam and jumped into the downstream side. He became trapped in a water hydraulic and drowned.

McDonald County Coroner B. J. Goodwin pronounced Chance dead at the scene at 8:07 p.m.

The drowning was the fifth for Highway Patrol Troop D in 2015 and the second in July.
