Crowder Tech Center to offer eighth graders career training day camp

(From Crowder College)

Crowder College’s Technical Education Center will offer 8th grade students from area schools the opportunity to experience career training programs, Nov. 17-19, 9am-2:30pm.

Students from Neosho, McDonald County, Seneca, Diamond, and East Newton will experience hands-on training in Automotive, Construction, Child Development, Collision Repair, Computer, Criminal Justice, Diesel, Health Sciences and Welding programs offered at the high school and college levels.

“This provides students a look at potential careers and opportunities for their future” stated Jim Williams, CTEC Student Services.

The day camp has been a showcase opportunity for the 8th graders to see what their fellow high school students are doing every day. Many are looking to gain employment once they leave high school in their field of study.

A total of 420 eighth grade students will experience two programs they might have an interest in pursuing as a career. CTEC staff will provide a morning and afternoon session while hosting lunch in coordination with a short program from the Admissions Office.

CTEC currently offers high school juniors and seniors from Neosho, McDonald County, Diamond, East Newton and Seneca the ability to earn certificates or college credit. Partnerships with the five area schools prepares students for entry-level employment, advanced job training, two and four year college programs and apprenticeship programs.
