Play. concerts among holiday offerings at Missouri Southern

An original children’s play set in a toy store at Christmas, several music performances and a unique shopping experience are among the holiday offerings planned at Missouri Southern State University.

A Boutique Bonanza will be offered from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, in the Ralph L. Gray Alumni Center.

The festive shopping experience will feature local merchants offering a wide variety of holiday gifts. The event is open to alumni, faculty and staff, students and the community.

The Southern Jazz Orchestra will present a Swingin’ Jazz Holiday Show at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, in Webster Hall’s Corley Auditorium.

Under the direction of Freddie Green, the jazz orchestra will perform selections sure to get the audience in the holiday spirit. Admission is free and open to the public.

The sixth annual Seasonal Choral Flourish will be offered at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, and Saturday, Dec. 5, at the St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 812 S. Pearl Ave.

The free concert will feature performances by the Southern Concert Chorale, Chamber Singers and Jazz Unlimited, under the direction of Dr. David Sharlow.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Southern Theatre and the Show-Me Celebration Company will present “Christmas at the Old Toy Store” at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 5-6, in Taylor Performing Arts Center.

Written and directed by Lyndall Burrow, it’s the story of a toymaker who can’t understand why no one wants to buy his toys, toys who wonder if they will ever find a home and a couple of robbers who think they’ve found a treasure trove of money.

Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for children 12 and under. The box office will open Monday, Nov. 30. Hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. For reservations, call 417-625-3190 or visit http://www.mssu.edu/ticket-office.

The Southern Wind Ensemble will present their winter concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, in Taylor Performing Arts Center.

The wind ensemble is under the direction of Dr. Rick Espinosa. The concert is free and open to the public.
