Artist schedules appearance Friday at Thomas Jefferson

(From Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School)

Imagine painting an intricate scene inside a shaped glass ornament – in miniature and in reverse! It’s the ancient Chinese art technique known as Ne’Qwa, and this unique artistic method has been revived in the Ne’Qwa Art Collection.

Modern-day artist Trieste Cordova is a master at the extraordinary art form, and will demonstrate how it’s done during an exclusive personal appearance at Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School on Friday as part of her national tour. She will give a presentation about the fascinating Ne’Qwa Art for all Middle and Upper School students, and then will do artist demonstrations and lessons for Middle and Upper School art students. Students in these classes will paint their own Ne’Qwa ornament, and experience painting in reverse, thanks to a donation from Precious Moments Family of Companies that provided the blank glass ornaments in velvet cases, the specially-made brushes, and the paints.

In addition to her classes with students, Trieste will be available immediately after school to visit with parents, answer questions about Ne’Qwa Art, and sign ornaments.
