Southern jazz combos to perform at Gusano's

(From Southern News Service)

The Southern Jazz Combos from Missouri Southern State University will perform at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, at Gusano’s Pizza, 3929 E. Seventh St.

The performance will feature two student combos performing a variety of selections from the jazz idiom, including “Summertime, “Sister Sadie,” “Speak Low, “Cute,” “On a Clear Day” and “The Preacher.” Vocalist Bailey Park will sing “Gentle Rain,” “Stormy Weather, “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore” and other jazz standards.

“This is an opportunity for people in the community to listen to our jazz combos in a more relaxed atmosphere,” said Dr. Phillip C. Wise, director of jazz studies. “I encourage folks to come out to relax and enjoy a pizza and listen to an evening of jazz.”

The performance is free and open to the public; however, those planning to attend are strongly encouraged to make advance reservations by calling Gusano’s at 417-623-9090. Be sure to request seating near the jazz combos.
