Charge: Former Hampshire Landing manager embezzled $117,000

(From the Joplin Police Department)

On June 23, 2015 the Joplin Police Department initiated an investigation regarding the potential embezzlement of money from the Hampshire Landing apartment complex at 2001 S. Hampshire Terrace in Joplin.

Their corporate office expressed concerns that the former property manager, Shelly E. Scofield, had misappropriated payments from tenants and tenant applicants.

From January of 2014 to June of 2015 evidence indicated Scofield had stolen $117,879.53 from the apartment complex. Scofield also manufactured and purported false documentation, including creating false tenants, to cover up her fraudulent activities.

On November 16, 2015 the Joplin Police Department concluded its investigation with the arrest of Shelly E. Scofield. On November 17, 2015 the Jasper County Prosecutor's Office filed a charge of Stealing (Class B Felony) against Scofield. She is currently being held in the Joplin City Jail with a bond of $10,000 ($7,500 cash or surety and $2,500 cash only).
