Five-year-old Goodman girl killed, four others injured in minivan-train collision

A five-year-old Goodman girl was killed and four other people injured in a minivan-train collision 7:45 p.m. Wednesday on Sarratt Road, two miles north of Goodman.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2006 Chrysler Town and Country Minivan driven by Katelynd M. Cartwright, 24, Goodman, failed to yield to a Kansas City Southern General Electric locomotive driven by Damon S. Cox, 40, Poteau, Oklahoma, and was struck by the train.

A yield sign and railroad cross buck were both on sight of the crash.

A passenger, Leah M. Robinson 5, Goodman, was pronounced dead by Dr. Alahson at 1 a.m. at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.

Cartright and another passenger, Michael A. Teed, 26, Joplin, were taken to Freeman West with serious injuries. Two other passengers, Aidin R. Coe, 3, and Jayden T. Coe, 5, both of Neosho, were treated for minor injuries at Freeman West.

The fatality was the 42nd this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.

  1. My Grandpa has lived just over those tracks for over 30 years. Mikey has been just 1 of many those tracks and beyond have been home to, including myself. Just curious why EVERY artical reporting this is Quoting the H.P saying there were yield signs and an arm.. IT IS VERY UNTRUE.. There is no crossing arm on those tracks, there never has been....
