Two people, including Joplin man, injured in collision caused by deer on I-49

Two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident 2:55 a.m. today on southbound I-49, five miles south of Joplin.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by Benjamin L. Wehmeyer, 34, Salem, struck a deer. Wehmeyer lost control of the vehicle and drove into the path of a 2014 Mac truck driven by Matthew C. Spellman, 28, Springfield.

Wehmeyer and a passenger in his vehicle, Anjel E. Jarman, 37, Joplin, were treated for minor injuries at Mercy Hospital, Joplin.
