Three presentations are planned for the second Sherwood Speaker Series at Missouri Southern State University.
Presented by the Sherwood/Rader Farm Civil War Park, the series will kick off at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, with a program on the Osage perspective of the Civil War by Dr. Isaias J. McCaffrey, a history professor at Independence Community College.
The series will continue with presentations by Dr. Jeremy Neely, from Missouri State University on Jan. 20; and Jennifer M. Murray, from Oklahoma State University, on Feb. 24.
All lectures will be offered in Webster Hall’s Corley Auditorium. Admission is free and open to the public.
The Sherwood/Rader Farm Park commemorates the May 19, 1863, engagement between African American soldiers of the First Kansas Colored Infantry and Confederate guerrillas, in which the Union soldiers were ambushed and killed. The park is located at the intersection of Peace Church and Fountain Roads in Jasper County.
