A new applied behavior analysis center on the campus of Missouri Southern State University is the focus of the next edition of “Newsmakers” on KGCS-TV.Drs. Holly Hackett and Ayla Schmick from MSSU’s Psychology Department, sit down with Judy Stiles, host and KGCS general manager – to discuss plans for the development of the center, as well as how it will benefit area children and Missouri Southern students.
The new clinic will be housed in Taylor Hall. Construction began earlier this month and is slated to be finished in February. The total cost of the project is an estimated $470,519.47 – which will be covered by a Child Care in Higher Education grant through the Missouri Department of Social Services.
The autism support program was also recently approved for $231,945 through a MoExcels Workforce Initiative grant for FY 2021; those funds are on hold, however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The show will begin airing nightly at 5:30 p.m. the week of Nov. 22, and Saturday, Nov. 28 at 5:30 a.m. on KOAM-TV. It’s also posted on the station’s YouTube channel (KGCS Missouri Southern) at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4M_5UR-YLCc.
KGCS programing can be seen on channel 21, and is also available on regional cable television systems such as Sparklight, Mediacom and Suddenlink Communications. The station operates as a service of the Department of Communication at Missouri Southern State University.
