Carthage man killed, four other Carthage residents received serious injuries in crash north of Oronogo

A Carthage man was killed and four Carthage residents injured in a one-vehicle accident 2 a.m. Sunday on Kafir Road, two miles north of Oronogo.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2004 Toyota Sienna driven by Victor Alexandrios, Carthage, traveled off the right side of the roadway, returned to the road, crossed the center line, overcorrected and struck a tree.

Alexandrios was pronounced dead at the scene by Jasper County Deputy Coroner Bob Wentworth at 3:30 a.m.








Three passengers, Brenda I. Lopez Escobar, 20, Aracely Mejia, 21, and Gladys Oxlath, 24, all of Carthage were treated for serious injuries at Mercy Hospital, Joplin.

A fourth passenger, Saul Irahate, Carthage, was treated for serious injuries at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.

The fatality was the 57th this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
