(From the Carthage Police Department)At this evening's Carthage City Council meeting Sgt. Hayden Swinehart was recognized for his outstanding and courageous police work on the night of October 12, 2020 being awarded the Medal of Valor.
Sgt. Swinehart attempted to stop a vehicle for erratic driving and suspecting the driving of being impaired. The suspect fled in his vehicle and Sgt. Swinehart pursued.
During the vehicle pursuit the suspect fired multiple shots from a firearm at Sgt. Swinehart. The suspect ultimately lost control of his vehicle where he crashed and overturned.
He was taken into custody by Sgt. Swinehart with the assistance of the Jasper County Sheriffs Office.
