(From the McDonald County R-1 School District)
Today was a remarkable day at McDonald County High School as our students had the privilege of hearing firsthand from Holocaust survivor, Erika Schwartz. Her life story, born in a Hungarian Nazi ghetto and emerging as one of the few survivors of her family, is a testament to resilience and the human spirit.
Erika's visit is a rare and impactful opportunity for our students to connect with history, fostering empathy and understanding. With only around 240,000 Jewish Holocaust survivors worldwide including around 39,000 in the United States, Erika represents a living link to an important period in history.
