Public meeting set to discuss widening of 20th Street in Joplin

(From the City of Joplin)

The City of Joplin will host an Open House Public Meeting from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at Twin Hills Country Club, 2109 S. Country Club Drive, to discuss the widening and improvement of 20th Street, west of Schifferdecker Avenue.

At this preliminary phase of the project, City staff would value input from area property owners for consideration in the design and other aspects of the project.

Widening West 20th Street is one of the projects that the City and the Joplin Area Transportation Study Organization (JATSO), the designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Joplin region, have identified as a transportation improvement need throughout the community. This project was also part of the project list that voters approved in August 2014 with the renewal of the 10-year, 3/8 cent Capital Improvement Sales Tax.

The meeting will be in the club’s north meeting room with City engineering staff and representatives of Allgeier Martin and Associates, Inc. (AMA), the design engineer for the project, available to address questions. Citizens may drop by at any time during these hours to view the plans, ask questions, and provide input on the upcoming project. Introductory remarks will be made at the top of the meeting, and staff will be available to visit with citizens until 6 p.m.

A comment sheet will also be available for citizens to provide their input on the proposed project. This sheet may be turned in at the public meeting or may be mailed to the City after the meeting has occurred.

If unable to attend the meeting and would like to discuss the project, citizens may contact Rob Beachner at 417-624-0820 ext. 1543 rbeachne@joplinmo.org or Dan Johnson at 417-624-0820 ext. 1530, djohnso1@joplinmo.org.

In case of inclement weather, the City will reschedule this meeting. Please watch the City’s website www.joplinmo.org or visit the City’s Facebook page on the day of the meeting for updates.
