(From KGCS)Hands-on education in a state-of-the-art facility is the promise of the Roy Blunt Health Science Innovation Center now under construction at Missouri Southern State University. University leaders and faculty give a progress report on the building effort on the next Newsmakers program.
President Dean Van Galen explains how the new building was named and how its design will become the first focus for visitors with a welcome center on one side and a simulation hospital on the other. Dr. Brad Hodson gives a construction update.
Health Science faculty members Dr. Crystal Lemmons, Dr. Lisa Beals and Dr. Sherry Whiteman share the benefits of the simulation hospital for students of multiple majors including those in pre-med and pre-nursing programs. Dr. Alla Barry explains the importance of an expanded cadaver lab that will be part of the center and how more hours working with anatomy can help confront a nationwide issue of medical errors.
Newsmakers is airing nightly at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. the week of July 21 on KGCS-TV and will air at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, July 27 on KOAM-TV. It is also posted on the station’s YouTube channel: KGCS - Missouri Southern State University.
KGCS programming can be seen on channel 21 and is also available on regional cable television systems such as Sparklight, Mediacom and Optimum Internet in Carthage. The station operates as a service of the Department of Communications at Missouri Southern State University.
