New Missouri Extension horticulture specialist to serve area

(From University of Missouri Extension)

Matthew Huchteman joined University of Missouri Extension on Jan. 27 as a new field specialist in horticulture serving the counties of Barry, Barton, Dade, Jasper, Lawrence, McDonald, Newton and Polk. He is based in Jasper County.

In this role, Huchteman delivers educational programs and technical assistance focusing on both home and commercial horticulture.

Huchteman is a southwestern Missouri native and lives in his hometown of Dadeville. He remains active on his family farm, specializing in small ruminant and custom square bale production.

He has a bachelor’s degree in environmental plant science from Missouri State University and a master’s degree in plant, insect and microbial sciences from MU, where his graduate research focused on weed management options for American elderberry production.

He says he enjoys all aspects of both home and commercial horticulture but specializes in small fruit production and home gardening.

“I look forward to working with gardeners and producers to improve horticulture production in the southwest region and across the state of Missouri,” Huchteman says.
