New MSSU volleyball coach quits, interim coach named

(From Missouri Southern Sports)

Missouri Southern assistant volleyball coach Joshua Moore has been named the Interim Head Coach through the 2025 volleyball season. The move, announced today by MSSU Athletic Director Rob Mallory, comes after recently named Head Coach Kelly Richardson informed MSSU that she will not be taking on the role.

"After a few days of prayerful reflection and time with my family, I have decided to step back from the helm of Lion Volleyball. This decision is in the best interests of myself and family, and in no way reflects on the exciting things happening with this outstanding program and athletic department," stated Richardson.

"While this has been an incredibly hard decision I am confident MSSU volleyball is in excellent hands with Coach Moore, and the future ahead is very bright. I again want to thank Rob Mallory and the entire MSSU athletic staff for their support, and wish everyone in Lion Nation nothing but the best"

Moore has served as the assistant coach for the past three seasons. He took over as acting head coach in October 2024 and previously served as the Interim Head Coach through the months of January and February.

"While this is an unfortunate situation, I have full confidence in Josh Moore to lead our program and provide our student-athletes with the consistency and stability they need right now," said Mallory. "Josh has been an integral part of our volleyball program for more than three years and has done a great job serving in both the acting and interim head coaching roles since October. We are fortunate to have someone of his caliber on staff, and I look forward to supporting him in this expanded role to provide the best opportunity for a successful 2025 season."

"I'd like to thank Rob Mallory, Cori Reid, and the rest of the hiring committee for giving me this opportunity to lead Missouri Southern Volleyball. I'm excited to continue working with our student-athletes to achieve excellence on the court, in the classroom, and in the community. This University and this program have been such a blessing to me, I'm honored to be on the sidelines coaching the Lions," Coach Moore shared.

He continued, "The team and I are working hard to get better every day, and we are excited to see all our Lion fans this fall."
