Joplin Police Department warns of phone scam

(From the Joplin Police Department)

We have been made aware of a possible phone scam in which a caller is requesting money to support a firefighter line-of-duty disability bill. The caller will give statistical information regarding firefighters and lung cancer.

The Missouri State Council of Firefighters (MSCFF) and the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) are unaware of any legislation regarding line-of-duty disability for firefighters. The MSCFF nor the IAFF are soliciting Missouri residents to collect money for a Firefighter Disability Bill. Normally, funds would also not be solicited for legislative efforts such as this. If you receive a call similar to this, do not donate and please report it to your local police.

  1. Another scam that take advantage of people sympathy? I hope no one has fallen victim to this. I'm so sick to know that scammer were taking advantage Memorial Day and now they come up with firefighters disability scenario. Remember not to immediately believe information from anonymous call. Do a research before giving any donation. Don't forget to also report it to https://www.callercenter.com and https://www.fcc.gov.
