Noel woman killed, Joplin man airlifted to Freeman following head on collision

A Noel woman was killed and two others airlifted to Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, following a two-vehicle accident 9:10 p.m. Wednesday on Highway 59 in Anderson.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica driven by Shannon D. Cupp, 42, Anderson, crossed the center line and struck a 2006 Nissan Frontier driven by Rudy C. Faulkner, 65, Noel, head on.

A passenger in the Cupp vehicle, Billie M. Newton, 43, Noel, was pronounced dead at 10:25 p.m. by coroner Traci Dowd.  

Faulkner and a passenger in his vehicle, Robert H. McDonald, 59, Joplin, were airlifted to Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, with moderate injuries.

Cupp was treated for moderate injuries at Freeman Neosho and was arrested by the Highway Patrol on a felony probation violation warrant.

The fatality was the ninth this month and the 50th this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
