Seneca woman cited for DWI after three injured in accident near Joplin

A Seneca woman was charged with driving while intoxicated after three people were injured in a one-vehicle accident 5:45 p.m. Saturday on Dutch Elm Drive, three miles south of Joplin.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2003 Ford F150 driven by Patricia J. Abernathy, 22, Seneca, ran off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree.

Abernathy and a passenger, Jason C. Russell, 27, Joplin, suffered minor injuries. Another passenger, Nicole D. Copley, 27, Joplin, suffered serious injuries. Abernathy was treated at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, while the other two were treated at Mercy Hospital, Joplin.
