(From the Joplin Public Library)
As part of its Summer Reading Club, the Joplin Public Library will host a visit from “Jay and Leslie’s Laughing Matters” at 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, June 11. During the show, which is appropriate for children ages four and up, Jay and Leslie will explore feats of skill, feats of daring, and feats of dumb luck! Highlights will include plenty of juggling, a touch of magic, and the adventures of library hero “Dewey Decimal”.
Jay and Leslie Cady are full-time performing artists that have given over 6,000 performances in 35 states and seven countries. They have trained extensively in circus and vaudeville arts, and studied with legendary mime Marcel Marceau.
In their programs Jay and Leslie use theatrical skills and humor to teach math, reading, science, civics, and more. In 2010 Kansas City Young Audiences awarded them the Lighton Prize for Excellence as Teaching Artists and designated them Master Teaching Artists.
The program is free of charge and has been made possible thanks to a federal grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, as administered by the Missouri State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State.
Anyone attending this program is also encouraged to join the Summer Reading Club which centers on superheroes and allows all children, no matter their residency, a free card for the duration of the program and the opportunity to earn two free books.
