(From the Joplin Police Department)
The 2016 Supervisor of the Year Award for the Joplin Police Department was presented to Captain Larry Swinehart. The following a part of the award nomination was that submitted.
He is open and honest with his division, he has an open door to anyone, anytime. He expects greatness and has been rewarded that expectation because of the respect that he has earned. His division gives one hundred percent because he gives one hundred percent. He works with his supervisory staff and is open to their suggestions and new ideas, working with them, not ruling over them. Captain Swinehart takes that one step further. He not only has those qualities and is confident in his own abilities but he also knows it takes a whole team to get the job done and he relies on the ideas and suggestions of others.
Over the last year we have had two homicides, two 1st degree assaults and a bank robbery where a suspect was not immediately determined. The detective division has been successful in solving each of these major cases. The driving force is that Captain Swinehart wants his division to be successful, but also because he cares about the victims and their families and his ultimate goal is to give them closure to a horrific incident in their life.
