JPD report: Woman claims boyfriend stabbed her, actually stabbed herself trying to slash his tires

(From the Joplin Police Department)

Incident Spotlight

Last night around 11 p.m. our officers were dispatched to a stabbing call on East 20th.

A caller reported that a family member had been stabbed by her boyfriend in the stomach. Officers began attempting to locate the female victim and her boyfriend suspect. Officers located the boyfriend and detained him.

Other officers located the victim's vehicle parked at a fast foood restaurant with blood on the inside and held it as a scene. Other officers spoke to family members of the female.

Officers were holding three different scenes while other officers continued to look for the female. Other officers located the female at Freeman ER. It was ultimately determined that the female was attempting to slash the tires of her boyfriend's car and severely injured her hand with the knife, and lied to family to cover her tracks.

This incident shows the amount of resources and time that is spent on instances where we believe someone is in danger, and in times like this turns out to be based on a lie to cover a crime.
