Today is a day that we are encouraging everyone to be "weather aware".
Severe weather is expected to move into the area this afternoon and will carry with it the risk of all modes of severe weather, including large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rain.
In terms of tornado potential the greatest threat for tornadoes remains to our south and west in central Oklahoma, however, it cannot be ruled out for our area as well.
One of the bigger issues that needs to be noted is that we could receive very heavy rainfall and currently our ground is saturated to the point that any rain could result in a flash flood risk. Given all of this we ask that you please:
- remain weather aware and monitor only "trusted" weather sources, US National Weather Service Springfield Missouri, Meteorologist Doug Heady, Matt Posgai, Ray Foreman KODE.
- Have a plan taking into consideration your plans for the day and where you can seek shelter if the need arises.
- Turn around and Don't Drown. Any amount of water running across a road is dangerous and can sweep your car off the road quickly.
We will not be making any other updates on this today because we want you paying attention and relying on your trusted local forecasters and your weather radio.
