Thunderstorms are expected to develop out in the plains today and shift eastward into the area late this evening and overnight. A half inch to localized higher amounts around an inch will be possible, but will fall on already saturated or in some cases flooded ground. This will likely cause some flash flooding to occur. The National Weather Service in Springfield has issued a * Flash Flood Watch for portions of southeast Kansas and Missouri, including the following areas, in southeast Kansas, Bourbon, Cherokee, and Crawford. In Missouri, Barton, Jasper, Newton, and Vernon. * From midnight CDT tonight through Sunday morning * Excessive rainfall over saturated ground. * Low lying areas and areas near rivers, creeks and streams will likely become flooded. Urban flooding will likely occur, especially where storms track over the same areas. This additional rainfall will exacerbate any ongoing flooding.
