Two suspects who fled on foot after being involved in a one vehicle non-injury crash at the Riverton Roundabout Thursday evening are in custody on a variety of charges stemming from a recent string of vehicle thefts and property damage.

Just after 6 p.m. on July 4th, 2019, deputies were dispatched to the Roundabout where they learned the two occupants fled the scene after crashing a 2008 Ford Escape, which was reported stolen from the Weir area on June 25th.

A short time later, deputies located the occupants and took them into custody.

“Based on an ongoing investigation and evidence obtained at the scene on Thursday, as well as other evidence gathered during the course of the investigations, detectives have linked the two suspects to multiple other recent crimes in Cherokee County and neighboring states,” according to Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves.

In addition to the June 26th burglary where the Ford Escape was stolen, the investigation has linked the two suspects to the burglary and theft of a 1998 Dodge Truck on June 26th (later recovered in Pittsburg), the burglary of a Toyota Scion and the burglary and theft of a 2005 Dodge Ram truck both on June 30th (later recovered in Miami) along with recent incidents of vandalism in Weir.

The suspects, Kayla Ann Gordon, 25, of Girard, and 27-year-old Kyle Baker, of Pittsburg, remain in the Cherokee County Jail.

Gordon is being held without bond on allegations of 4 counts of Burglary, 4 counts of Possessing Stolen Property, 4 counts of Criminal Trespass, 3 counts of Felony Theft, 2 counts of Criminal Damage to Property and 4 Outstanding Warrants for her arrest.

Baker faces allegations of 4 counts of Burglary, 4 counts of Possessing Stolen Property, 3 counts of Felony Theft, 4 counts of Criminal Trespass, 2 counts of Criminal Damage to Property and 2 Outstanding Warrants for his arrest. He is also being held without bond.
