Diamond man killed in officer-involved shooting in Carthage

At 11:30 p.m. on January 12, 2019, officers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Newton County Sheriff’s Department, and Jasper County Sheriff’s Department stopped a suspected intoxicated driver in a parking lot near Airport Drive in Carthage, Missouri.

The man exited his vehicle and fired a weapon at the officers. Fearing for their safety, the officers returned fire striking the suspect. 

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. 










Preliminary investigation identified the suspect as Brad Stirewalt, 47, of Diamond, Missouri. 

Officers with the Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug & Crime Control and Jasper County Sheriff’s Department are investigating the officer-involved shooting.
