Joplin man arrested on multiple felony charges after stolen minivan collides with Joplin R-8 bus

On January 29, 2020 at approximately 6:20 AM JPD officers responded to a report of stolen van in the 300 block of north Joplin Ave.

The reporting party advised officers she was tracking her stolen vehicle with GPS and guided officers to the location the vehicle was traveling. 

Officers located the vehicle near Coyote Drive and attempted to stop the stolen vehicle. The vehicle fled and the vehicle was not pursued. 

Shortly after the vehicle fled, it hit a Joplin R-8 school bus traveling on Coyote Drive. 









The school bus had two children and one driver on the bus. No injuries were reported by the occupants of the bus. 

The driver of the stolen vehicle had fled upon officer’s arrival on foot and was later located. 

Donny Cook, 25 years old of Joplin, MO was taken into custody. Cook has been arrested and charges forwarded for Tampering 1st degree, Endangering the welfare of a child 2nd degree, Leaving scene of a motor vehicle accident, and Resisting arrest.
