The Small Business Development Center at Missouri Southern State University was recognized for its efforts during the University of Missouri Extension’s annual Business Development Program awards celebration.
The awards honor individual and team performances for the most recent fiscal year.
Ken Surbrugg, director of the Center for Entrepreneurship, received three awards. The BDP Innovator Award recognizes the business development staff person who developed and delivered the most innovative program. He was also honored among those with the six highest number of counseling hours and the top five highest client satisfaction ratings.
Lisa Robinson, Missouri Southern’s SBDC director, was also recognized in the highest number of counseling hours and top five highest client satisfaction categories.
The center at MSSU was also given the annual Blue Block Award, which is awarded for a score of more than 100 percent on a center’s dashboard of goals. The local center achieved a score of more than 100 percent in the following Small Business Administration goals: Capitalization, Business Starts, Unique Clients Served, and Jobs Supported.
It also achieved more than 100 percent in other goals, including Sales Increase, Jobs Created, Jobs Retained, Number of Trainings, Total Counseling Hours, Client Counseling Satisfaction and Success Stories/Third Party Advocates.
Located in the Robert W. Plaster College of Business at Missouri Southern, the SBDC’s mission is to improve people’s lives and the competitiveness of Missouri Businesses through research-based education and technical assistance to enhance the state’s economy. It provides consulting and training for existing and start-up small businesses, one-on-one educational counseling and training for owners, managers and employees of area businesses and industries.
