MSSU Chamber Singers to open for Voctave at Sunday concert

(From Southern News Service)

The Missouri Southern State University Chamber Singers will attend a master class with the a cappella group Voctave on Sunday, Feb. 2, before serving as openers during the evening concert presented as part of Connect2Culture’s 2019-20 Curtains Up Series.

The master class will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday in Missouri Southern’s Phinney Hall, where they will work on two songs with the group. The Chamber Singers will then open for Voctave at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the Performing Arts Center at Joplin High School, 2104 Indiana Ave.

The 11-memmber a cappella group got their start as Disney’s “Voices of Liberty” at Epcot Center. In 2015, they organized independently to create new arrangements of classic Disney songs and popular Broadway hits.

Their arrangements have featured award-winning singers from all genres, and their videos have received 100 million views on YouTube and Facebook. With four albums, they continue to record and perform an ever-expanding range of music – from gospel to musical theater, and contemporary Christian to barbershop and pop.

Tickets for the evening concert are $25 for orchestra seating, $20 for mezzanine and front balcony, and $15 for back balcony. They can be purchased online at http://connect2culture.org/, by calling 417-501-5550, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Joplin Empire Market, or at the door.
