Former Joplin Police Officer Brian Lewis has been chosen to fill the position as Assistant Chief for the department. Brian retired in 2015 with Joplin Police Department as the Assistant Chief after 21 years of service.
He worked his way through the ranks serving in Patrol, as an Officer, Corporal, and in investigations as a Corporal and Sergeant before his transfer to Internal Affairs.
Upon his promotion to Lieutenant, Brian served in numerous roles within the department. He was primarily the Public Information Officer, and secondary duties were that of fleet manager, chaplain liaison, and Police Accreditation Manager.

Brian supervised the department’s first crime analyst, as well as the jail as it transitioned to city oversight from a private run entity. Brian later transferred back as the Lieutenant over the investigation’s bureau until his promotion to Assistant Chief, where he stayed until retirement.
Brian has bachelor’s degrees from Pittsburg State in Sociology and Spanish. For the past 5 years, Brian has been an investigator and Victim Advocate with the Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
Brian is a married father of three who is active in his church and enjoys spending time with his family.
