The Joplin Public Library recently announced plans to strengthen its services to families and children following receipt of funds from the Bramlage and Willcoxon Foundation.
The $4,000 grant award will be used to purchase books and literacy resources. The books will be given to families who attend the Library’s monthly Explore & Play literacy events, to help ensure access to age-appropriate books and to grow their home libraries; and the literacy resources will be added to the Library’s popular collection of Take Home Bags.
These additional offerings will help ensure that families have access to a well-rounded collection of resources that can improve their children’s literacy skills.
“Early literacy is a key ingredient in making Joplin a healthy, equitable, and desirable place to live,” said Children’s Librarian Christina Matekel-Gibson. “By investing in these projects and offering early literacy resources directly focused on children, we are investing in our community, and working to support children at a crucial time in their development.”
The Bramlage and Willcoxon Foundation strives to improve the lives of the people and the communities it touches by focusing on health, education, and children. By investing in health, education, and future leaders, it endeavors to support the efforts of individuals and communities to realize their hopes and dreams, while also celebrating the legacy of Fred and Dorothy Bramlage and Robert and Dorothy Willcoxon.
