Fayetteville man seriously injured, hospitalized after nearly drowning in Elk River

A Fayetteville, Arkansas man nearly drowned in Elk River, three-fourths of a mile downstream from Pineville at 2:20 p.m. Saturday.

According to the Highway Patrol report, Christopher B. Burnside, 27, Fayetteville, was swimming behind a raft and it is believed that he passed out and was floating face down. A bystander saw him and pulled him from the war, initiated CPR and revived him.

Burnside was taken to Mercy Hospital, Rogers, Arkansas, to be treated for serious injuries.
