City of Joplin, Republic Services offer alternative solutions to residents who had no trash service this week

(From the City of Joplin)

To help residents who have not had trash service this week due to the weather, the City of Joplin and Republic Services are providing some alternative solutions. Republic’s Transfer Station, located on Old Route 66 just east of Galena, Kan., will accept Joplin residents’ trash at no charge.

The station is open from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Their address is 1715 East Front Street.

Another option provides roll-off containers placed at several Joplin locations for residents to bring their trash for disposal. Residents can bring their bagged trash and place them in these containers. Please do not leave bags on the ground.

The roll-offs will be placed on Saturday, Feb. 13, at these City facilities:
Public Works Center, 1301 West 2nd Street; in parking lot
Schifferdecker Park, just north of Joplin History &Mineral Museum;
McClelland Park, 4568 McClelland Park Rd, in parking lot

“We’d appreciate that if citizens have the ability to hold their trash until their next trash date, to please do so,” said David Hertzberg, Director of Public Works. “But we understand that many residents may not have areas for that and need to dispose of their weekly trash. The roll-offs provide an option for residents, as does the Transfer Station drop-off offer.”

With the current forecast for continuing frigid temperatures and chances of snow, City and Republic staff worked together to provide these options.

“We encourage residents to use these options before the next winter storm hits our area, which is predicted for early next week.”

For next week’s service noting a cancellation or a delay, the City will post announcements to the City’s website and Facebook page. Residents may call the Recycling Coordinator at 417-624-0820, ext. 501 when there is a question as to whether trash service will be delayed, or for any recycling, household hazardous waste and trash disposal issues.
