Joplin woman, Avilla man identified as victims in double murder

The next of kin for the two victims have been notified. Mason McClure, 34, the resident of 255 Greenfield, and Nicole Hodges, 34, Joplin, were the victims found in the residence.

Autopsies were conducted today. Preliminary results indicate that both of them died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds.








Earlier news release

On 02-21-21 at approximately 5:30 PM, Jasper County Deputies were dispatched to 255 Greenfield, Avilla. 

At the scene the bodies of a male and female were located deceased. Investigation revealed that it appeared the two individuals were murdered.

At approximately 4:30 AM, 02-22-2021, a suspect in the crime, Kevin C. Johnson, 24, Reeds, was arrested for homicide. He is currently being held in the Jasper County Jail awaiting formal charges. There are no other suspects being sought at this time.

An autopsy has been scheduled for both individuals for today.

This incident appears to be related to the homicide that occurred in Newton County on 02-20-21. Investigation into these incidents continues.
