Joplin man dies at local hospital following shooting at Range Line Motel 6

The victim, Matthew A. Painter, age 43 of Joplin, has died from injuries sustained during the shooting and next-of-kin has been notified. An autopsy is currently being scheduled. 


At this time no arrest has been made, but the case remains under investigation. Further details will be released once they become available. 







Earlier news release

On February 15, 2021 at 12:24 pm the Joplin Police Department Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call of shots fired at Motel 6 located at 3031 S. Rangeline Road. 

Officers with JPD responded and located an adult male with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital and is currently undergoing treatment. He is considered to be in critical condition and his name is being withheld pending the notification of next-of-kin. 

Officers also located the adult male shooter on scene and he is currently cooperating with the investigation. A handgun was recovered at the scene. 

Joplin PD Detectives are currently conducting the criminal investigation and further details will be released when they become available.
