Schifferdecker Aquatic Center closed this weekend, Cunningham to temporarily open

(From the City of Joplin)

Schifferdecker Aquatic Center will be closed to the public starting at 6:00 p.m. Friday, June 11 through Sunday, June 13 for the Joplin Stingrays Swim Team annual meet.

Due to the closure, the Joplin Parks and Recreation Department will be temporarily opening Cunningham Aquatic Center for the weekend to accommodate patrons.

Cunningham Aquatic Center, located at 24th & Maiden Lane, will be open on Saturday, June 12 and Sunday, June 13 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Admission is $4.50 for visitors age 15 years and under and $5.50 for visitors 16 years and over. There is no charge for children age two and under, when accompanied by an adult. The capacity of the pool is 400 patrons. Due to the facility being open temporarily, concessions will not be available to purchase. Patrons may bring in plastic water bottles. No glass containers will be permitted.

“We’re fortunate we have enough lifeguards available to open Cunningham for this weekend because it has a wide variety of amenities and features for all ages to enjoy.” said Paul Bloomberg, Parks and Recreation Director. “Although we do not have enough to staff two facilities on a permanent basis this summer, we’re pleased to open an alternate facility for the public during this weekend.”

The normal 2021 operating schedule will resume Monday, June 14, with Schifferdecker Aquatic Center being open to the public.
