Armed, dangerous suspect barricaded in Joplin home, JPD SWAT, Highway Patrol on scene

(From the Joplin Police Department)

On December 9th, 2021 at 12:55 am, an officer with the Joplin Police Department observed an adult male suspect who had active felony warrants for his arrest in a vehicle near the area of 7th and Sergeant Avenue.

The officer attempted to stop the vehicle and it fled, resulting in a short vehicle pursuit. The suspect stopped in the 200 block of south Connor Avenue and fled on foot into a residence at 215 S. Connor Avenue.

Officers immediately surrounded the house and began attempts to get the suspect to exit. After numerous failed attempts, the situation was deemed to be an armed and barricaded situation and the Joplin Police Department SWAT Team was activated.

JPD SWAT has worked throughout the early morning hours and is currently being assisted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol SWAT Team. This is an active scene, and we request that that the general public stay clear of this area.

Several roadways may be blocked in this general area so drivers are encouraged to find alternative routes away from this scene. The name, identifying information and nature of his active warrants are being withheld at this time pending the resolution of the incident.

This subject is considered armed and extremely dangerous.

Further details will be released as they become available.
