(From Carl Junction Schools)Two Carl Junction High School’s National History Day team members, Lydia Churchill and Catherine Logan were invited to participate in a “Day at the Capitol” this week in Jefferson City. Sponsored by the State Historical Society of Missouri, this event highlights the National History Day in Missouri program, allowing select students to showcase their 2022 projects and share their NHD stories with legislators, staff, and visitors to the Capitol rotunda.
Participants were formally recognized on the Missouri House of Representatives and the Missouri Senate floor. Each student met their State Representative and State Senator, who presented them with formal resolutions honoring their excellence.
Participants were privileged to dialogue with Dr. Gary Kremer, Executive Director of SHSMO, and former U.S. Senator Roy Blunt, President of SHSMO’s Board of Trustees. The students were also treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of the State Capitol, including a journey to the top of the capitol rotunda!
Doug Logan, CJHS Social Studies teacher and NHD Coach was also invited to participate. Lydia’s father, Ryan Churchill, accompanied the group, as well. Catherine was unable to participate in person due to illness. Mr. Logan accepted her resolutions on her behalf, and Dr. Theresa Wilson, CJ Assistant Superintendent, presented Catherine with her resolutions at school.
