Joplin woman killed in crash; driver arrested for felony DWI


A Joplin man was arrested on a felony driving while intoxicated charge following a one-vehicle fatality accident 8:28 p.m. Wednesday on River Road, one mile east of Joplin.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by William D. Deckard, 21, Joplin, ran off the roadway on a curve and struck a concrete pillar.







A passenger, Liberty L. Fowler, 20, Joplin, was pronounced dead at the scene by Newton County Coroner Dale Owens.

Deckard, who was also cited for careless and imprudent driving, for not wearing a seat belt and for not having insurance or valid plates, was treated for minor injuries at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.

The fatality was the 60th this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.

  1. We was following them, he was speeding out of control drunk because he was pissed she wasnt spending enough time with him. He was abusive to her the whole time they was together. He wouldn't let her drive even though he was drunk. I hope he gets a lot of time but we know our judges they let them off easy.
