Duenweg Fire Department encourages drivers to avoid I-44 to avoid congested holiday traffic

(From the Duenweg Volunteer Fire Department)

Due to heavier amounts of traffic on I-44 with the July 4th holiday approaching and lane closures due to bridge damage at exit 18 (Carthage), we are highly encouraging drivers to take an alternative route to avoid the slowed and congested traffic in that area.

Highway 96 and Highway 60 are options when needing to travel.

Carthage Fire along with Duenweg Fire, Missouri State Highway Patrol and Jasper County Sheriff worked together yesterday in clearing the roadway after a fatal rear-end collision due to slowed traffic.

If you must travel between Joplin and Carthage, please be aware of traffic around you and pay attention to road warning signs. Again try to avoid this stretch of road as it will be like this through August.
