Webb City man arrested after police find bomb in his car

On Wednesday October 29, 2014, an officer assigned to the Jasper County Drug Task Force received information that a subject may have an Improvised Explosives Device in his possession.

Officers were able to locate this suspect and officers with the Joplin Police Department stopped the vehicle near the 700 block of North Schifferdecker. An Explosives sniffing K9 with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene. The K9 alerted on the vehicle. An agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives responded to the scene as well.

An object was recovered from the vehicle that was later determined to be an explosive device. The passenger of the vehicle, Andrew Utley, a 22 year old male from Webb City was arrested for Possession of a Prohibited Weapon. Mr. Utley was transported to the Joplin City Jail. Jasper County filed charges on Mr. Utley and set the bond at $5,000 surety. He was later transported to the Jasper County Jail.

Officers with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Webb City Police Department, Jasper County Drug Task Force, Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives, and the Joplin Police Department all assisted in the investigation of this case.
