The four winners were announced during a luncheon with author Charles Finch. His novel, “The Last Enchantments,” was the common read for all University Experience 100 classes during the fall semester. Finch drew on personal experience for his novel about an American graduate student studying at the University of Oxford.
The contest, sponsored by the First-Year Experience office and Sigma Tau Delta, required entrants to submit a work between 750 and 1,000 words inspired by one of several selected prompts from Finch’s novel.
The winners were:
First place: Hannah Kelley, biology major, Broken Arrow, Okla.
Second place: Kimberly Teed, health, wellness and promotions major, Carthage
Third place: Jane Moore, speech and drama education major, Ramona, Okla.
Fourth: Emily Harris, undecided, Webb City
Prize amounts were $125 for first place; $100 for second; $50 for third; and $25 for fourth.
