I-44 shut down as Jasper County deputies arrest armed suspect

On 11-18-2016 at approximately 4:30 p.m, a Jasper County deputy noticed a vehicle roadside near Prigmor and I-44.

As he checked on the vehicle, the occupants appeared to be very nervous. Other deputies arrived on scene as back up. As the deputy was contacting to the two male subjects, one of the male subjects ran and brandished a firearm towards the deputy as he was running.

I-44 was shut down temporarily at this point for safety as deputies, along with Missouri State Highway Patrol, Joplin Police Department, Duenweg and Carterville began searching for the male.

A short time later, the male was located and taken into custody. No one was injured during this incident.

The two males were arrested and identified as Ruben Longoria, 26, of Phoenix, AZ and Derek M. Gallegos,23, of Los Lemas, NM.

Ruben was arrested for driving while suspended and Gallegos was arrested for 1st degree assault on a law enforcement officer. Charges have been sent to the Prosecutor's Office.
