Newton County Sheriff recovers stolen vehicle, gun, makes arrest

(From the Newton County Sheriff's Office)

On 11/22/2016 the Newton County Sheriff's Office was notified by Ottawa County Sheriff's Office of a stolen vehicle report they had taken south of Picher, OK.

OCSO advised the vehicle, a silver 2015 Dodge Ram 3500 dually pickup, was stolen and possibly may be headed into Newton County. Deputies and detectives searched an area of interest looking for the vehicle, locating it in the area of Highway 86 and Dolphin Drive, south of Joplin. The suspect was able to elude deputies at that time but was relocated later in the day and pursued again into the area of Neosho.

The vehicle again eluded officers until it was relocated in the area of Highway 59 and Highway 86. The suspect continued to flee from deputies in the stolen vehicle until it sustained enough damage it would no longer run. The suspect surrendered and was taken into custody by deputies at approximately 2:53PM without incident. The vehicle was recovered as well as a stolen handgun out of Jasper County.

We would like to thank the Newton County Central Dispatch Center, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Neosho Police Department, Diamond Police Department, Jasper County Sheriff's Office, Joplin Police Department and Ottawa County Sheriff's Office.

With their cooperation and assistance we were able to take a bad guy off the street.

The name of the suspect is being withheld pending formal charges with the Newton County Prosecutor's Office.
