(From the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office)
The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office will be joining agencies from across Kansas, as well as those from Iowa, Nebraska, Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma to focus enforcement efforts on speeding drivers between July 21st and July 23rd.
Law enforcement from the six-state area will be extra-vigilant when patrolling around city, rural, state and federal roads and highways. An increase in speeds also increases the severity of crashes, often leading to a rise in fatalities and serious injuries. In addition to watching for those traveling too fast, officers will also be on alert for intoxicated and unrestrained drivers.
“In just the past couple of weeks, we have had several of our residents die as a result of traffic crashes,” stated Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves. “We want all of our residents to be able to travel our roadways safely, whether in a vehicle, on foot or biking and in an effort to do that, we will be joining our law enforcement partners during this enforcement project,” concluded Sheriff Groves.
